rubicat design and photography

Here I try to post photos regularly in order to develop my photography intuition and get feedback on my work.
Of course, occasional dry spells are mandated by travel/crazy schedule/what-have-you. Enjoy what is here, and feel free to request subjects if you have specific interests.

My photography is casual, and does not center around any particular themes. Animals are my favourite subjects, but really, I shoot whatever strikes my fancy...

My friend Dani crafted my husband and me in our felt forms. My husband is MonkeyBoy, so he got the full beasty treatment (complete with haircut), and I got a cute felt likeness, down to my penchant for black clothing, Macs, and my red hair. It rocks on toast to have creative friends. :)

Armand (above) is a total cuddleslut of a cat. Everyone is rendered pudding upon meeting him. :)

Not to be out-foofed, Claudia holds her own, impersonating a meringue with claws.



Gabrielle needs a serious brushing before she will deign to be photographed. She's cranky.

My concert photography is improving, and I ended up with almost 300 photos from Festival KINETIK in Montreal. The festival is an EBM/electro/industrial/noise music festival held each May. My best low-light lens suffered a fall a couple months ago, so the focusing mechanism is off. To make the photography even MORE challenging, I don't like to shoot concert photos with flash.

I welcome feedback on the images. If you view the set, which one is your favourite?

Adorable persian boy who was a bit sleepy. Still, we were able to coax a few good shots out of him.

Halle is an elderbun, delicate and beautiful.

(candid) My guinea pig mentor and a certified wildlife rehabber, Jo Ann exhibits a nurturing love for animals that inspires me. She also hates having her photo taken, but I believe you can really capture someone without having to see their face. :)

Joey is another Underdog who is currently being fostered to help him overcome a broken leg. Little Joey was found with a broken back leg that hadn't healed correctly. He's now in physical therapy to help his leg regain its strength. Unfortunately, Joey has a low tolerance for pain, which his foster mom is helping him with as well. He's such a sweet boy, and posed like a champ for the calendar!



I'll let everyone know (seriously; there will be no avoiding me) once the Underdog ResQ calendar is ready!

The Boston PIGnic was last Sunday. I have many photos to sort through, but this is one of my favourites. Guinea pigs love to peek out from the comfort of their little shelters.
